FEER
by Meaghan O’Connell (with flaming alligator pit diagram by Peter Vidani)
Because we are suffering an unprecedented economy of language as well as a dearth of metaphorical satisfaction,
Because you try jumping over a pit of flame-engulfed alligators and not taking any advantage you can,
Because progress necessitates regress, or so my therapist tells me,
Because there is nothing to feer but feer itself,
or more likely, the lack thereof.
Because if I were to turn this word into a biting yet insightful commentary on dating in the 21st century, I would say, “Please refer to the diagram.”

i first met Meaghan when interviewing potential wetnurses for my infant daughter. since that time she has gained intergalactic superstardom by tweeting lewd propositions to legitimate businesses who do not yet know exactly how to handle social media. she writes an hourly column on dating in the 21st century from her chaise longue at tumblr headquarters.
