week 2
my bearded friend alex who likes to count beans, ran some stats for me on his deep blue computer and came to the conclusion that 56% of all possible three letter strings are not in the dictionary—that more than half the time, i will be shooting blanks. and i was like, “how’s that different from real life?”
at any rate, in week 2, i drew obc and was quite pleased to see that i wouldn’t be coming up dry this time either. there are 15 words in the oh ee dee which contain this string and lobcock is by far the best. it’s a great sounding word, isn’t it? the lob acts as a buffer, dampening the blow of the cock while simultaneously rendering it all the more ridiculous.
here are some other choice obc words:
obcæcate · blinded; destitute of mental or spiritual vision
obcompressed · flattened in the opposite of the usual direction
obconic · inversely conical
couplet-style outro commencing…
gonna sip gin and tonic from an obconic glass
while i gawk at lobcocks as they stumble into class.
peace out, homeslices.

this is a post in the ragbag word summer series. for this series, i search for words in the oed that contain a randomly generated string of 3 letters and report my findings. it is a thrill ride.
