week 5
the other night i was tokyo drifting around street corners in my bitching pontiac when out of nowhere some lurker (wearing black!) jaywalks his way across the intersection. now what you have to keep in mind is that i live in a pretty exclusive neighbourhood and this variety of riffraff is not very common among the orders with which i associate. so i did the only logical thing and blasted the lurker with my aftermarket high beams in little pulses until he hightailed it across the tracks and lurked about in a neighbourhood not lucky enough to have me and baronesa alessandra on patrol.
i was therefore pretty amped when i came across tenebrio while wading through the 563 neb words in the oxford english dictionary. here are some more.
cynebót · compensation paid to the people for the murder of the king
funebrial · pertaining to funerals. hence, gloomy, sad, melancholy
inebulliated · not boiled
in tenebris · in darkness, in a state of doubt
nebbich · a nobody, a non-entity
nebulist · an artist whose work is marked by indistinctness of outline
sneb · to reprimand
tenebrific · causing or producing darkness; obscuring
also noteworthy is that this is the first 3-letter string so far which is a word by itself. a neb is the beak or bill of a bird—hence, any projecting part (wink, wink).

this is a post in the ragbag word summer series. for this series, i search for words in the oh ee dee that contain a randomly generated string of 3 letters and report my findings. it is a thrill ride.
previous selections have been: acyrological (incorrect in use of words), lobcock (a blundering fool), crwth (an ancient celtic violin), and pfuiteufel (an exclamation of contempt or disgust).
